Below is a link to an article for CBC news outlining the dangerous metal Lead being used in children's jewlery. Although there are safety standards banning the use of lead in children's toys/paint, there are no such regulations in place for the production of jewlery. This second article points out the use of Cadmium (another extremly dangerous metal and known carcinogen) being used to replace Lead, because there are no restriction on Cadmium in the manufacturing of toys and jewlery for children

Here is a quote from the a thrid article that lists Walmart, dollar stores, and Claire's as bring the main culprits in selling lead/cadmium tainted jewlery intended from children.
"Three flip flop bracelet charms sold at Walmart contained between 84 and 86 percent cadmium. The charms fared the worst of any item on the stomach acid test; one shed more cadmium in 24 hours than what World Health Organization guidelines deem a safe exposure over 60 weeks for a 33-pound child"
